Over the Labor Day weekend, my family took a trip to a place we’ve been visiting for over ten years: North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Before leaving, my parents requested that I photograph my sister for her senior portraits. I remembered learning in the summer about balancing flash power with ambient light, and an idea instantly hit me. I decided to attempt a shot where Kelly, my sister, was in the foreground being lit by the flash while the sun set in the background. I was able to bring my idea to life one evening while on Ocracoke Island using a single strobe firing through a soft box.
